Technical Assistance Programs
Technical assistance programs offer assistance to small business owners in such fields as business plan preparation, loan packaging, marketing, management, taxes, accounting, computers, procurement (selling to the government), exporting and other areas.
- Small Business Development Centers
There are 18 Small Business Development Centers in the State, mostly at community colleges. The SBDCs have business counselors who provide free assistance to clients in doing business plans, securing capital, and accessing a wealth of business information and assistance.

- The State Procurement Division
This State agency assists New Mexico businesses obtain government contracts for products and services. The organization can help business market to the government, find contracts to bid on and assist in preparing proposals.

- SBAs 8 (a) Marketing Program
The 8(a) Program is a business development program that provides its participants access to a variety of business development services, including the opportunity to receive federal contracts on a sole-source or limited competition basis. Under the 8(a) Program, SBA enters into prime contracts with federal departments and agencies and subcontracts the performance of work to disadvantaged (minority owned) small businesses that are certified participants in the program.

- Women's Economic Self-sufficiency Team (WESST Corp.)
WESST Corp is a non-profit business and technical assistance organization that facilitates the start-up and growth of small businesses in the State of New Mexico. Headquartered in Albuquerque, WESST Corp also has regional offices in Farmington, Las Cruces, Roswell, Santa Fe and Taos. - Native American Initiative - State Office of Indian Economic Development
The Office's role is to help enhance tribal economic development and create employment opportunities. A primary focus is on identifying federal, state and private sector resources to help fund tribal economic development activities. The new office designs and implements programs to promote Indian economic potential and establish a business mentor program to enable Indian business efforts. The office also prepares a comprehensive economic profile of each Indian pueblo or reservation and has developed a resource directory for programs available to Indians.

- Trade Adjustment Assistance:
Technical assistance provided to trade-impacted manufacturers helping them to develop strategies to remain competitive in the international economy. This organization is based in Colorado, but works across the southwest, including New Mexico. They can help companies impacted by defense conversion or international trade remain competitive through technical advise and cost sharing programs.
